How do I know if I’m a Type A person???

Dr. Mandy MarziazWellness Tips

Lately I’ve been getting asked this question. As you know, I have a special place in my heart for taking care of Type A women because they are usually too busy taking care of everyone else to take time for themselves. And in doing this, I help them to feel more connected to themselves, their family, their work, and the Universe around them.

But, how do you know if you are a Type A person? Well, I’ve put together some traits of Type A people.

Do you suffer from any of the following?

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Digestive issues
  • Multiple allergies and sensitives
  • Infertility
  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Difficulty losing weight (hint: this is a cortisol thing related to your adrenal glands which get drained when you are under a lot of stress, which Type A people put themselves under a lot of stress)
  • Decreased immunity (you get sick more often or worse, you never get sick…that is a sign that your immune system has shut down)
  • Pain – joint pain, back pain, restless legs, etc
  • Headaches
  • Tension in the body – lots of tight and tense muscles – are your shoulders in your ears???
  • Difficulty concentrating, often distracted, and hard to be in the present moment
  • Sitting still makes you crazy

As you can see, a lot of these are symptoms that someone under a lot of stress might experience. Well, that’s because Type A people by their nature tend to put themselves under a lot of stress. So, what are the traits of a Type A person?

You are more of a morning person than a night owl

Type A’s are typically up with the larks and rarely sleep in, even at weekends. They feel they are missing out on too much. They have an overwhelming need to get up and get things done.

You are never late, and get irritated at those who are

Being constantly late is the one thing that will cause a Type A personality to explode. They themselves are never late and having to wait for someone else literally eats them up inside.

You hate wasting time

Another reason why you hate people being late, it is wasting your time. So whether you are stuck in a queue at the bank, in a traffic jam, or on call waiting, you can feel your blood pressure rising.

You have a low tolerance for lazy people/slackers

People who operate in a “low gear” in life drive you crazy. You are up at dawn, filling your day with productivity, and find yourself getting irritated by people that can’t keep up.

You are a perfectionist

Not just in work, in every aspect of your life. You try to have the most pristine car, house, partner, clothes. If everything is not organized and running on time, you become stressed and tense.

You do not suffer fools

And we are back to time-wasting again. Stupid people take up too much of your precious time. You simply don’t have enough to waste on them. It’s not that you see yourself as more intelligent, you just don’t understand how people can be so stupid.

You are easily stressed

Because EVERYTHING in your life needs to take center stage right now, your to do list is miles long, and you aren’t good at saying no to things, your stress levels are higher. Add to that your perfectionistic ways and the demands you place on yourself, you sometimes feel as if you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.

You find relaxing difficult

Relaxing is an unknown quantity to Type A’s. Their minds are always racing ahead with their next project or goal, therefore taking time off to relax can seem unnatural and wasteful.

You do make thing happen

You would think that all the above qualities are negative, but Type A’s are very good at realizing their goals and making their dreams come true. They occupy many leadership roles because of this trait.

Now, if you see yourself in some or most of these traits, it’s time to take a step back. Type A people are at risk for health problems because of the stress they experience on a consistent basis. Your system wasn’t meant to be under CONSTANT STRESS, even if on a low level. We can ADAPT to stress, but we can’t consistently drive ourselves harder and harder without a breakdown of the system. And I know, if you’re Type A like me, you’re reading this and thinking, but I don’t drive myself hard enough. Chiropractic can help regulate your nervous system so that stress bucket can handle more stress before it tips over.
